Avoiding Chimney Fires
Evaluation for repair of a masonry chimney damaged by a chimney fire should only be accomplished by a professional trained in chimney construction, building codes, and chimney testing procedures. A smoke tightness test is sometimes requred to verify usability of the chimney. Damage could be minor or severe enough to require a total replacement of the chimney system. Most masonry chimneys can be repaired with a combination of masonry repairs and chimney liner replacement.
The most common chimney lining replacement/repair can be accomplished with a properly sealed UL Listed insulated stainless steel lining pipe installed inside the masonry chimney. This is the most economical and effective method to repair or upgrade a damaged or unlined chimney. The lining can be accomplished and put into use quickly with minimal expense or disruption of the household.
